Companies Selling Our Information

The companies that sell our information should always have a signature on file showing that they requested our information for them to sell.

Further, They should be sending at least 50% of the profit for selling our specific information, directly to us in the form of a check (not some bogus rebate thing that you can only submit for some online thing that allows your information to be re-sold to more companies).  They wouldn’t owe anyone for information such as (10 of 500 customers are men for this particular service).

This policy will help those of us who are under-employed, and those who are unemployed.  Not only will this help us, but it will need to be claimed on our taxes, which means that the companies selling our information will need to send us a 1099 on all information sales, which will let the government know if it is a legal sale of information.  The shady companies should include paying the IRS on our behalf so we don’t get stuck with a big bill at the end of the year.

If they sell the information without paying us, then the fines should be set for at least 10 times the profit that the company made off of us, plus what they owe us for selling our information in the first place.  For different types of information, the price should go up above 50%.  Social Security Numbers would be 5 times the total profit made for the sale, names would be the 50%, addresses could be 75%, bank, financial and employment information would be at least the same as Social Security numbers.  Politicians who use our information in this manner (without a letter or comment from us in the first place), should owe us money right out of their pockets and this should be monitored so that they aren’t using tax payer funds for the information.  All of this includes using the phone book to get our information.  The phone book is for honest people to find you that need to get in touch with you, not dirt bags trying to make a profit off of your innocence.
