The other day on the radio, I heard that our economy is improving. The banks are doing better, Wall Street is doing well, and the oil companies are having a great profit year. Wasn’t the mortgage crisis, failing Wall Street, and higher gas prices the cause of these three entities? Guess what, those serious issues are heading back towards the 2008 levels and Washington D.C. hasn’t fixed anything since then. We are heading back into a deeper recession or possibly a depression because of the lack of the Democrats AND Republicans getting anything done. If they don’t compromise with each other, they will continue to compromise the integrity of our own nation.
The U.S. Government should have let Wall Street fail while bailing out individuals, starting with the people who needed the money the most at 100% and reducing the citizen bailout by 1% for every $10,000 increase that they had in the stock market at the time of the failure.
Banks should have been told that they couldn’t increase the adjustable rate mortgage rate by more than 1/2 percent per year, and they couldn’t charge additional fees over the cost of a normal refinance. Also, they shouldn’t be allowed to go more than 1% over the average APR for a typical fixed rate mortgage at current APR levels.
The oil companies need to be told what the minimum number of barrels of oil need to be and the maximum that they are allowed to charge for a barrel of oil. If they don’t follow this policy, they sell their business to someone else. They can’t sell to another country, they need to follow all of the safety regulations, or be fined, and they can’t se4ll to another major oil company if they will cause a monopoly. With restrictions like these, you could charge them the taxes that they owe without having oil prices used to extort our country into letting them do anything that they want.
