The Kings Speech

What an impressive movie, especially considering that it was based on a true story!  As King George started as Duke of York with a “stammering” or stuttering problem and learned to overcome his disability so that he could become King, he showed his ability to become equal to his subjects as well as learn to be a great leader during Hitlers rise to power.  Even when his father had doubts of his ability to lead while stammering, he was able to surpass his problem.

This makes me think of  our leader, President Obama, and to wish that he would admit that he is Middle Eastern by a much higher percentage than black, and to finally be honest with his ‘subjects’ or constituents that he is responsible for.  I’ve heard supposedly intelligent people from Harvard say that ‘one day, middle eastern people may have a President in the White House’.  The problem with this statement is that, at the time that it was said, they already had one in office, but he gets more votes for being black than middle eastern.  If he were to be honest, he could gain respect from many U.S. citizens that he never had respect from before.  He wouldn’t be guaranteed to get re-elected, but I would rather go out being respected than being black (respected because of being black alone).

The situation that brought King George VI into his position as King, his brother (Queen Elizabeth’s uncle) wanting to marry a woman who was divorced, reminded me of Prince Charles situation of his wanting to divorce Princess Diana and marry Camilla,, which took Charles out of the running for becoming King himself. I no longer know who the heir to the throne is, but at least the United Kingdom sticks with rules that are hundreds of years old as opposed to the U.S. politicians wanting to change the rules to protect themselves from the laws and amendments that the rest of us are required to follow.  From this day forward, all laws and amendments shall apply to all politicians.

  3. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was curious what all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web savvy so I’m not 100% sure. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
